The „bistable“ C13

A new product in our range:

The „bistable“ C13

Innovation by nass magnet — with the new „bistable C13“ our range has acquired an energy-efficient solenoid valve. By doing this, we are not only keeping the promise we made to our-selves to consistently grow and develop, but we are also contributing to protecting the climate.

After almost three years of development, our new product, the Cartridge 13 (C13 for short), has emerged in our product range from the start of 2021. With the newly developed „bistable C13“, nass magnet GmbH is taking the plunge into the energy-efficient solenoid valve market. After all, we too want to contribute to protecting the climate and are always making our systems smaller, lighter and more energy-efficient.

But what actually is a „bistable“ solenoid valve?

General definition of bistability:

Bistability (from the Latin ‚Bi‘ = two and the Latin ‚Stabilis‘ = steadfast, stable) is a property of some systems which enables them to be in one of two possible stable states and can be switched from one to the other by an external switch.

With regard to our new valve, this means:

A permanent magnet was installed in the valve, in addition to the classic magnetic core, which enables the power to the valve to be switched off after the valve is activated and yet the armature will stay in its closed position. Only with another quick stimulus will the armature return to its original position.

Advantages of bistable solenoid valves

Warming of the medium or the environment due to the warming of the constant current flowing through the coil are reduced to basically zero — thus it is also possible to block multiple solenoid valves in a row, a so-called „matrix“.

The energy to hold the armature in the „on“ position is no longer required, enabling extremely energy-efficient systems. In addition, solenoid valves with a nominal voltage of 6 V are especially suited to battery-powered static and mobile systems

Where there are advantages, there are unfortunately also disadvantages

The disadvantage of bistable valves is that there is no unpowered safety position (provision). The reason for this is that the valves would stay in the position they are in even if there is a power cut or a control unit fault and would not move into a possible „safety position“.

To conclude, it is worth saying that nass magnet GmbH has successfully taken another step towards energy efficiency in their products with this valve version. More variants and other systems will follow. Market interest is high.
